Justin Longo was born and raised in central New Jersey. He played baseball and basketball year round for various school and travel teams. Despite being somewhat athletic and relatively good at baseball and basketball, he went to George Mason University on a partial academic scholarship. After taking his first microeconomics class in the fall of 2000 as part of his bachelor of science in business management, Justin fell head over heels in love with economics. Instead of switching majors, he finished his business degree in 4 years and then immediately re-enrolled to get his bachelor of science in economics. Finally in 2007, Justin earned his second degree, this time in economics from George Mason University.
Upon graduation from GMU, Justin jumped into his car and drove straight to Denver, CO. It was his dream for years to get out of Fairfax, VA and move to the mountain west. Literally the day after arriving in Denver, he walked into the Independence Institute and said, "I will work for free." That was May of 2007 and he has been at the Institute ever since (with pay of course).
While at the Independence Institute, Justin has written several op-eds that have been placed in newspapers around the state in addition to an Issue Backgrounder. With Senator Morgan Carroll, he helped write and testified on behalf of legislation that provided more transparency for special districts. Justin also co-owns and edits the extremely popular news website CompleteColorado.com. He can be heard on many of the Independence Institute podcasts on iVoices.org, as well as Colorado talk radio. He generally speaks about the news media, political coverage, and economics on various radio stations around the state, but most often on News Talk 1310 KFKA.
Aside from an unhealthy obsession with the Austrian School of Economics, Justin enjoys road cycling. He rides and races for the Primal Racing p/b First Bank team. If you see him out on the roads, make sure to say something like, "Go faster, wussy."
